Live Below the Line

Hey, I'm Hunter Chiam. Today I've decided to make my life a little bit interesting by joining this Live Below the Line. It was basically a group organised by the Unilodge to help those who live in poverty. How do we do it?? Look below.

This May I'm going to be living below the line! From May 16th - 20th I'll be surviving off just $2 a day for all of my food...... It's definitely going to be hard, but it's an awesome way for me to raise money and awareness for the 1.4 billion people who have to live like this every day - and who have to make $2 cover a lot more than food! Please donate to support me, and critical anti-poverty initiatives. After donating - you should consider joining up and doing it yourself!!! Click this link to sponsor Live Below the Line

Thank You for your support!!!! ^^

SKYFIRE!!!!!

Saturday (19th March 2011) ......There are no people on the road on Canberra, the city was empty at 8.00pm. All shops are open, but there are not a single customer in the shops. The city was totally empty, no people crossing the road, no car wondering around and there are no buses either waiting for people at the bus stop. Civic's club was empty as well. You know why?? It's because everybody went for the SKYFIRE!!!!

Skyfire was the largest event/most happening event in Canberra. During that day, all of the residents of Canberra will bring their family to watch the most prestigious event of the year. They will bring all the stuff (food, basket, radio and everything for picnic). This year, they held the SkyFire event at Lake Burley Griffin. Even though the place was big (thrice the size of Tasik Titiwangsa in KL), the place is pack with people as early as 4pm (So, now you know how grand is the event right?) Some businessmen try to seize this opportunity to sell various types of foods with a slightly higher price. Here, I posted the link so that you all can view the photo (I can't upload it here because the blog will be packed with 400+ of photos!!!!)

My Life So Far ~~~

When some of friends ask me about things like 'how's ur life, how the class, how's the place, how's the blah blah blah.......' I always answer them with the answer 'cool', because that's how the Australian reply (Really). I just want to let you all know that 'cool' here means great, fantastic, awesome and some other 'great' words used to describe the life you had.

So far so good, that is how my life is. Today is the 5th weeks I'm in Australia, 4th week in ANU =.=
2 assignments still in pending mode, where the nearest deadline is 9th of April 2011 (Yeah, I have to state it was 2011, if not some 'dumb' people will interpreted it other ways). Reasons for not doing the assignments: no mood and lazy to do research. Yeah, LAZY LAZy LAzy Lazy lazy~~~ that's the excuse I've always use to avoid all these academic/education stuff. Still, every single day, I force myself go to study room and flip the page(s) so that I'll study (or at least make some notes). Thanks to Pam, I study in the study room for 4 days straight (I think laa XD)

I started to like the weather in Canberra. the average temperature here is around 15-19'C, and sometimes morning weather can reach up to 9'C (this is what I experience during summer and autumn), imagine winter hits Canberra in June, I'll be shivering like H*** while I walk to lecture hall. Owh, thats reminds me that I have not buy my winter jacket yet =.=lll

The foods here are awesome. One thing I like about Canberra is all places that we want to travel is so near. For example, all restaurants that are really nice were a stone throws away (don't know what it means, go check your dictionaries). Last week, I had a bowl of Laksa (more like a curry noodle for me) and it taste like awesome. After that, we went to Koko black for Iced Chocolate, which only cost us $7.75 for a glass (the combination of Chocolate ice-cream with Vanilla ice-cream, floated on the mocha drink, served with a thick chocolate sauce and small chocolate pieces). The biggest shopping mall here is Canberra Center, or also known as CIVIC. I bought all the groceries and necessity stuffs there. Want to watch movies?? Just go to CIVIC and you can watch all the latest movie with a fees around 14-15$ (which obviously I won't pay for that price!!!)

I think I have to resume my life as a nerd, not a geek (always play games). I really have to start studying before I can't catch up all the lessons. So, thats all for today. Stay tuned.

Peace!!!

Pray for their safety please...

I'm sure everyone of you heard about the disaster in Japan. Let us pray together so that all Japanese can get through this. The earthquake in japan was 8.9 scala richter and it has caused a massive tsunami as high as 4meters tall. It swept away most of the thing in north japan, houses, ships, shops, vehicle and etc. Some of the people start to afraid as it mirrors one of the Blockbuster movie 2012. But at least, there are happy ending in the end. Hopefully all the citizen in Japan will able to go through this obstacle. We should be grateful for what we have and help them as much as we can, for example helping them by donation and giving them moral support.

Pray for the Japanese, pray for their safety.

A Life that we should always treasure....

Today, I seriously don't know what to write the introductory for today post. It was a sombre, dark day in Taman Debunga in Malacca, as well as here, in Canberra. The news just struck to my face, just like that, a smack, real hard smack on my face. My eyes starts to drop tear when I heard that my grandfather just passed away. I tried to breathed hard and cool myself when I heard the news because I was celebrating my friend's birthday in Canberra Center. I was hard, so hard to control my emotions, my feelings, everything about myself. Currently, I feel like I need to go back, go back to Malaysia, go back to my hometown Malacca to visit my grandfather for the last time. But, my mom already advise me to stay calm and keep on concentrating on my study, because that was my grandfather last wish before I fly to Australia.

My grandfather, Chiam Ah Kiau, was a famous photographer in Malacca. Most of the people in Serkam and Merlimau's area in Malacca knows him very well. The school frequently ask him to snap the class photo for the students in most of the school in Malacca. Whenever I want to remember him, he'll be wearing a white singlet with short blue pant in my mind. He often sleep on the long chair in the afternoon after reading the newspaper. His interest was more on stock market, where he'll take the financial newspaper and start plotting the graph of the selected companies. When he want to buy something, he'll use his motorcycle to travel around Merlimau and Malacca.

Life was so full of unexpected things to happen. God can just take away one's life and never give it back. Sometimes, he'll just hanging your life on the halfway and send you to coma state. You'll not going to heaven nor hell, just hanging around on earth searching for something that you've lost. However, we all have to face it. My relationship with my grandfather was quite close, because he taught me a lot of things. He teach me what is inside the share market and recently he teaches me how to take the photo. When I glance through the Chinese New Year, I can't bear the feeling anymore. This is for you, Grandfather.....I will always remember you.

Weekend Bomb!!!!

WOW, I was bombed for the weekend. I have the most adventure and fun party for the weekend before start my first semester in Australian National University. Since tomorrow I have to wake up early at8am in the morning, then I have to sleep early tonight. So, tonight I'll spend around 10 minutes to fully summaries what happens for my weekend XD.

Saturday was a windy day, which is quite a nice day to have a hiking expedition in Mount Ainslie. The Mount Ainslie was just located behind Canberra center, around 2-3km away from Canberra Center. Since most of us feel lazy to walk, then we took the bus at 11am near the main bus stop at Canberra. The mountain was totally different from Malaysian forest, which in Malaysia, the forest was so pact of trees and all the leaves in the forest was green. However, in Mount Ainslie, there are quite a few colour of the bark which is in black in colour, yellow in colour and brown in colour. And the trees had different type of green such as pale green, dark green and others. The wind really help us a lot, because compare to Malaysia, when you hiking, you will sweat a lot. But in Mount Ainslie, we don't sweat when we hiking and it makes the whole journey seems easier. It's only took us one hour to climb up to the top and our journey paid off in the end because the scenery on the top of Mount Ainslie was terrific. Luckily I took the whole video for memories.

When we come down, we went for the Australian War Memorial. It was like a museum with a lot of war artifacts and replicas. I manage to learn a bit of Australian history there as there are a lot of small clips being premier to the guest. The museum was so big and we have no chance to fully explore the whole museum. Since we only have a limited time to spend on going around the museum, so we just have a brief visit to every section of the museum. We even pay tribute to the lost soldier.

On Sunday, our senior organise a all Malaysian Potluck Party where all Malaysian can mingle around. I met with few seniors who studies Commerce and others too. I was freaking fun as we was laughing for some lame jokes in the party. My mouth keep on munching the food that all the people brought. Ow Yaa~~~, I forgot to tell that me, Yuga, Pam, Thali, Renu, Jarry, RR and Yen Wei was preparing the 'Fruit Punch' for the party. It went well actually, because the people keep on drinking it.

Thats all for today. I have to sleep early for tomorrow class. See you all soon in the next post.

Run Hunter Run ~~~~

Hahahaha, I feel quite refreshing after workout for 1hour in ANU gym. Tiring, because of my flu and sickness, I can't really have a full potential to do a full training in the gym. The gym in ANU is fully equipped. They have all sort of stuff there, I dont know whats the name of the machine, but I definitely know that if want to build up any muscle, then just go there and hit the gym real hard.

There did have trainer to teach you how to build up your cardio and muscle. But they charge us for like AUD30 per session, which is not quite worth it. Thats all for today. I'm building my muscle today. How about you?? You planning to build up your muscle and shape your body?? Go and hit the gym today ^^
